What is the Readmobile? The Readmobile brings learning, literacy, and fun to Scott County communities with visits to public and residential sites, community organizations, and special events.
Children ages 0-10 and their families and caregivers can climb aboard anytime during a Readmobile visit and stay for as long as they wish. The Readmobile activities and materials encourage the early literacy practices of read, write, talk, sing, and play to help prepare children for school, reading, and beyond. Children already in school have opportunities to continue developing positive literacy and learning experiences.
What does a visit look like? During a typical Readmobile visit, children and their families and caregivers engage with Readmobile materials including books, activities, and toys. They’ll also read books, sing songs, repeat action rhymes, and enjoy creative play activities with our trained experts who are passionate about learning.
The Readmobile also contains a small, diverse collection of books for families to borrow and return to the Readmobile. There is a different fun theme each week, so families can visit frequently and find new books and activities to borrow and share together.
Why is the Readmobile important?Preparing children for success in school begins with quality opportunities for a strong start, which is why we are focusing on parents and caregivers of children ages 0-10.
The Readmobile’s goals are:
- Help parents and caregivers learn ways to interact with their children that will support early literacy development.
- Connect parents and caregivers with community resources that support healthy child development.
Where can I visit the Readmobile? The Readmobile offers both public and residential programming. Please visit us at one of our public events listed below.
For the safety of our visitors and staff, the Readmobile may cancel site visits during severe weather warnings, advisories, or unsuitable driving conditions (icy or snowy roads). Check the webpage for the latest information.
