About the Program
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides part-time community service jobs for people 55 years of age or older who meet income guidelines. The purpose of SCSEP is to give participants the opportunity to enhance their skills to promote placement into unsubsidized jobs. Work site placements are made on an individual basis to match the applicant’s talents and interests to the work site. Prevailing minimum wage and Workers' Compensation are paid by the program. There are also a variety of community resources available for seniors.
Community Work Experience
You can have the opportunity to job shadow or train up to 20 hours per week in a community service job. This would enable you to utilize and enhance your abilities, skills, and aptitudes. Rates of pay vary depending on the county and type of job. Community agencies who have utilized this program are the following: libraries, historical societies, extension offices, human service office, fuel assistance programs, congregate dining sites, schools, and health care facilities. At the end of your work experience, you could access our job search resources in order to find an unsubsidized job.
Job Search Assistance
You can receive the following perks, free for the asking:
- Use of a career resource room filled with books, videos, papers, publications, job openings, etc. no appointment needed!
- Attend Employer Sessions and hear from actual employers what they are looking for in job applicants, and how to get the advantage on the competition.
- Use of computers with access to Word, Excel, internet, etc.
- Resume assistance
- Vocational assessment
- Career exploration
Training
Funding could be available for short-term job related training at local vocational schools, community education programs, or colleges. Participants have completed training in entry-level computer skills, CDL (commercial drivers license), and other occupational skills training programs.
