The following terms apply to volunteer groups that agree to adopt a Scott County highway:
The volunteer group agrees to pick up litter on a segment of county highway selected in consultation with the Scott County Highway Engineer. The recommended length is two miles.
The volunteer group agrees to a 3-year commitment to clean up their segment of roadway at least twice a year, in the spring and fall. The Highway Department provides safety vests and trash bags. The maintenance crew picks up and disposes of filled bags and other items.
Scott County agrees to erect a highway sign at no cost to the group to recognize the group's clean-up efforts. The name on the sign shall be limited to two lines of eighteen characters (including spaces). The county reserves the right to approve and/or edit names or acronyms. No logos, website addresses or telephone numbers are allowed on the signs.
All new Adopt A Highway groups receive free 30 inches by 24 inches signs. Current groups will have this new sign configuration phased in over a 10-year period.
