Donate
Thank you for considering Scott County Library for your donation! We use donations to enhance services, programs, and our collection.
What We Accept
- Physical materials in good condition, including gently used books, CDs, and DVDs. We do not accept textbooks, encyclopedias, or magazines.
- Monetary donations for collection purchases or funding programs
While we make every effort to honor the requested use of every gift, we cannot promise that donated funds will be used exactly as requested and ultimately it is up to Scott County staff to decide the use of donated funds.
We cannot accept donations of technology equipment due to information security and equipment vetting policies defined by Scott County Information Technology.
How To Donate
First, please contact your library to speak with the branch manager. If you're donating physical materials, calling ahead helps us ensure we have room for your donations when you bring them. Our donation form is also helpful.
Donations in Memory: If your donation is in memory of an individual, we can apply a custom acknowledgement label inside the book(s) to honor them.
Author Donations & Read Local
Are you a Scott County or Minnesota-based author wanting to donate your book? Scott County Library values our local authors and welcomes the inclusion of their works into our collections.
How It Works
Local authors may donate one to two copies of their published work to a Scott County Library to be added to the Read Local collection. Books added to our collection will appear in the library catalog. Books not added to the collection are considered donations. Please note that if your work is added to the collection, it may not remain there in perpetuity and may be removed at some point as part of ongoing collection maintenance.
Read Local Requirements
Printed works must be able to stand up to regular library use and have a library-rated binding (no stapled or spiral bindings) and be in a format that the library already collects.
We may decide to not include material if it falls outside of library selection criteria. Materials not added to the collection will be considered donations and may be placed in library book sales or discarded. Donated books are not returned to the author.
